DCS Adoption Boot Camp
DCS Adoption Boot Camp was developed to give participants a deep dive into preparing for their journey as adoptive parents. Adopting a child with a history of trauma compels parents to view parenting and youth from a different lens, to learn new skills, and to build grit. Through this series of classes, participants will:
- Learn about the adoption home study process at CFC, the matching process, and why we focus on youth 7-17 years old
- Learn about types of grief and loss and how it impacts childhood and behavior
- Understand the types of trauma kids may have experienced and how it impacts their brain, body, and beliefs
- Identify the 4 Attachment Styles of infancy and adulthood, how they drive behavior, and how adoptive parents can help heal and move children to a more secure attachment style
- Learn trauma-informed parenting strategies that work best for helping kids heal from trauma and insecure attachment styles
- Understand adolescent development and explore adoption identity development
Classes will run 5:30pm – 9:00pm weekly for 6 weeks. Attendees are welcome to bring dinner with them and coffee & water will be provided. Social distancing seating will be set-up. Childcare is not available
